I started reading the book “Into Thin Air”. I read about
Krakauer going to a Mount Everest climbing expedition that
started out with great excitement and expectations but turned out to be one of
the worst disasters the mountain had ever seen. Jon Krakauer planned to go to
base camp and write an article for a sports magazine. The article was going to
be about the commercialization of sherpas taking tourists to the top of the
mountain. Instead, he decided to climb the mountain himself, and his story turned
out to be of a group of climbers whose goal was to make it safely to the summit
of Mount Everest and back. The group of climbers was divided into different
companies with different guides. Some of the climbers and guides were experienced
and well prepared for the challenge, but others were not ready for the dangers that
they would soon face. Some of them were older; one was a 47 year old woman. Krakauer
was an experienced climber himself, but since he hadn’t climbed at high
altitudes, he hired the best guide in the world, Rob Hall, to take him to the
highest mountain in the world. Krakauer achieves his childhood dream of making
it to the summit of Mount Everest. But on his way back down the mountain, the narrow
trail was crowded by other climbers who were barely going up to the summit. The
crowds delayed some climbers on their way, and to make things worse, a strong
storm moved in as well, making many people lose their way and their lives.
